Upload guide

Everything that gets a sound approved on the first try. Most uploads that come back are missing one of these.

The file

  • •WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3 or OGG, up to 50 MB per file. WAV or FLAC is best: buyers get your original file.
  • •16-bit or higher, 44.1 kHz or higher. Below 16-bit or 22 kHz is flagged as low quality.
  • •One sound per file. Several takes or variations? Upload each one, or put them in a pack.
  • •Trim the silence at the start and end. A short fade-out is fine; seconds of nothing isn't.

Loudness

  • •Keep peaks below 0 dB. Anything touching 0 dB is flagged as possible clipping, and clipped or distorted files are sent back.
  • •Leave a little room: about -1.5 dB at the loudest moment. Quiet sounds (footsteps, room tone) are fine quiet; you don't need to push them up.
  • •Turn on “Even out loudness” in Settings → Upload preferences and each new upload is set to the same loudness as the rest of ReadySFX. The volume bar shows the change, and you can still move it.

Name, description and tags

  • •Name it for what it is: “Wooden Door Slam”, not “door_final_v3.wav”. Names with a file extension are flagged.
  • •Write a real description (at least a sentence): what it is, how it sounds, and what it's good for.
  • •Add at least 2 tags, and more is better. Think of what a game developer or editor would type to find it.
  • •Pick the category and subcategory that fit. ReadySFX suggests them; check the suggestion before you send.
  • •Don't use brand or franchise names (Nintendo, Marvel, Star Wars…) or words like “free download”. Listings with them always go to manual review.

Price

  • •Free, or at least US$2. You choose; you can change it later.
  • •What you earn from each sale is in the Creator Agreement and on the pricing page.

It has to be yours

  • •Only upload sounds you made or recorded yourself, or have the written right to sell.
  • •Sounds from other libraries, free sites, or AI sound generators whose terms forbid reselling (for example ElevenLabs sound effects) can't be sold here, even edited.
  • •Using AI or samples as a small part of your own work is covered in the Creator Agreement: the result must be substantially your own work.
  • •Re-uploading a sound that's already on ReadySFX, yours or someone else's, is caught by the duplicate check.

The most common reasons a sound is sent back

  • •Clipping or distortion: lower the level and upload again.
  • •Too much silence at the start or end: trim it.
  • •The name, tags or description don't match the sound.
  • •It's a duplicate of a sound already on ReadySFX.
  • •Low quality: noise, hiss or a very low sample rate.
  • •We can't confirm you own the rights to it.

If a sound is sent back, you'll get the reason in your notifications. Fix it and send it again; there's no penalty.
