Frequently asked questions

Buying sounds, licences, refunds, custom requests and selling on ReadySFX.

Buying sounds

How do I buy a sound?

Preview any sound for free, add it to your cart, sign in and pay. The sound goes straight to your Library, where you can download it. Browse sounds

Do I need an account?

You can browse and preview without one. To buy or get a free sound you need a free account, so your sounds and their licences are kept in your Library.

How do I pay, and in which currency?

Prices are in US dollars. Payments are processed by Stripe; ReadySFX never sees or stores your full card details. Taxes may be added at checkout where the law requires.

What file do I get?

The original file the creator uploaded, or a WAV, MP3 or OGG copy. Each sound page shows its length, sample rate, bit depth and channels before you buy.

Can I download a sound again later?

Yes. Everything you buy stays in your Library and can be re-downloaded any time. Download help

Are there free sounds?

Yes. Free sounds are added to your library the same way and come with a licence. You need a free account to get one. See the free SFX

What are packs?

Packs are themed collections set by each creator, usually priced below buying every sound on its own. Every sound in the pack is added to your library in one checkout. See collections

Licences and using sounds

What does royalty-free mean here?

You pay once and can keep using the sound in your projects. There are no royalties or per-project fees, and the licence doesn't expire. How licences work

Can I use the sounds in games, YouTube videos and client work?

With the Commercial licence, yes: unlimited shipped games and apps, monetised videos, films, ads, podcasts, streams and client work. The Personal licence covers projects that don't earn money. Each sound shows its licence on its page and at checkout. Commercial licence · Personal licence

Do I need to credit the creator?

No. Attribution isn't required under the Commercial licence, but it's always appreciated.

Will my video get a copyright claim?

Sounds on ReadySFX may not be registered with Content ID, so they shouldn't trigger claims. If one ever does, contact us and we'll help clear it. Contact us

Can I edit the sounds?

Yes. Editing, layering, pitching, trimming and mixing are all allowed.

Can my team or contractors use a sound I bought?

Yes, while they're working on your project. Your client may use the finished work, but not the sound file on its own.

What am I not allowed to do?

You can't resell, share or give away the sound file itself, on its own or in any sound library or pack, even edited. You also can't register it with Content ID, claim you created it, or use it to train AI models. Full list

Refunds and problems

Can I get a refund?

Yes, in full if you ask within 14 days and haven't downloaded anything from that order, or if a file is broken and can't be fixed, you were charged twice, or the sound is materially different from its listing. Refund Policy

A sound won't download or play. What do I do?

Try downloading it again or in another format first, since that often fixes it. If it still doesn't work, report it from your Library and we'll check the file. Download help

How long does a refund take?

Approved refunds go back to your original payment method. Your bank usually shows them within 5–10 business days.

Custom sound requests

How do custom requests work?

On a creator's page, choose Request a custom sound. Describe the sound, your budget, how many days the creator gets and how many revisions. Once you agree a price you pay into escrow, the creator delivers in a private workspace, and you accept the delivery or ask for changes. Your requests

Is my payment safe?

Your payment is held by ReadySFX until you accept the delivery. Once you accept, it's released to the creator and is final.

Can I send a video or example sound as a reference?

Yes. When you make a request, add up to 5 reference files (video clips in MP4, MOV or WebM, audio files, or images, up to 50 MB each). You can also attach files in the order's messages. Only you and the creator can open them.

Can the creator sell my custom sound to others?

Only if you didn't choose an exclusive buyout. Then the creator may also sell it in their ReadySFX store, starting 30 days after you accept it, so you get a head start. It's listed like any other sound, never with your name. Want it to be only yours? Choose Exclusive buyout when you send the request.

How long are custom order files kept?

30 days after the order closes (payment released or refunded, or a dispute resolved). Then the deliveries, attachments and reference files are deleted to protect your privacy, so download your sound before then. The order's messages stay.

Can I download the sound before I accept it?

No. While you review a delivery you hear a watermarked preview. The clean, full-quality file unlocks to download as soon as you accept it and your payment is released to the creator.

When does the creator's time start?

The days start when you pay into escrow, not when you send the request. The due date is shown before you pay.

What if the creator is late or I'm not happy?

You get a full refund if the creator declines, misses the due date without an extension you accepted, or you decline their request for more time. If they finish the work but you don't accept it after your revisions, Creator Payment Protection applies: after our review, at least 25% of the price may go to the creator and the rest is refunded.

Can I see what other customers thought of a creator?

Yes. Customers rate a creator after a completed request, and the average, the scores for sound quality, creativity, accuracy, communication and timing, and their written reviews are on the creator's profile. Reviews show as from a Verified customer, without names.

Can I get exclusive rights?

Yes. Tick Exclusive buyout when you send the request; the creator then can't sell or license that sound to anyone else. Exclusivity usually costs extra, added to the creator's quote.

Selling sounds

How do I start selling?

Apply with a little about your experience and some sample work. Our team reviews applications, usually within a few days. Applying and selling are free. Become a creator

How much do I earn?

65% of each sale, rising to 70% after US$500 in lifetime net earnings and 75% after US$2,000. On custom requests you keep 75% of the agreed price (80% as a Trusted Creator). There's no guaranteed income — it depends on your sounds and how often they sell. Pricing

When and how am I paid?

Each sale's earnings are held for 30 days (in case of a refund), then paid monthly by PayPal, usually around the 15th, once at least US$25 is ready.

Do I keep the rights to my sounds?

Yes. You keep ownership; ReadySFX gets a non-exclusive licence to host and sell them, so you can sell them elsewhere too (unless you agree to an exclusive buyout on a custom request).

Who sets the price?

You do: free, or anything from US$2 to US$500 per sound. You can also bundle sounds into packs at a discount.

Can I sell sounds made with AI?

Only if the sound is substantially your own work and the AI tool's own terms allow selling it. Some tools, such as ElevenLabs sound effects, don't allow their output to be sold as sound files at all. Creator Agreement

What happens after I upload?

Uploads are checked automatically for silent or empty files and likely duplicates, and may also be reviewed by our team before they go live.
